Take a “witch walk” in Salem. Indulge your foodie cravings at a Native American salmon feast in Seattle. Learn to saddle a horse in California. Volunteer to clear a hiking trail in a Texas cavern. Or shop till your feet are bleeding as you find fashion paradise at an outlet mall in South Florida. Written by self-described girly-girl and spa blogger Lisa Kasanicky, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Girlfriend Getaways offers an abundance of travel opportunities for like-minded gals. The first half of the book covers power shopping, antique furniture discovery, weight loss, and luxurious (pricey) spa getaways. The second half makes up for the first by exploring more unique experiences, like photography classes and rock climbing that can be done without concern for fashion or lipstick. You can expect a bevy of shoe advice and women-only tour packages spanning some of the best cities in the United States. You’ll also find useful tips on delegating group travel planning tasks, including splitting costs and maintaining room-sharing sanity. Grab this guide and start at chapter 10 if you’re overdue for some R&R with the gals.

Caught my eye, picked it up, LOVED IT!
Love that this book included not only ideas but resources, detailed info, and really practical tips. It definitely motivated me to plan an escape for a few days– this brought me back to the reality that it’s easier than I think it is! You can tell a lot of research went into finding the places to go, stay, see, explore, (they’re NOT your typical “first thing you think of” kind of ideas)! The girlfriend-to-girlfriend tips like “Chick Wit” are cute and entertaining– a nice balance with the information and idea packed pages. It was an enjoyable read no matter if I read a few chapters at a time or just flipped through some pages here and there. I think this would make a great present for Mother’s Day or birthdays, and I’m definitely keeping a few on hand for last-minute gifts. (more)
Makes me want to start packing!
Girlfriend Getaways is anything but your boring old 1980s travel guide shoved in the back your car’s glove compartment. Author Lisa Kasanicky’s fun, girlfriend-to-girlfriend witty writing style is woven into every fully researched destination making Girlfriend Getaways an instant page turner. The book is chocked full of helpful travel tips including a full list of beauty essentials every girl can’t leave home without. Great for fun trips with your girlfriends but most destinations can also be visited by couples or with family. Pick up a copy for yourself, your best friends and anyone else you think needs to be inspired to hit the road. (more)
A lot of fun and a TON of ideas!
This is such a fun and entertaining read! It’s a great resource to get a lot of information and ideas to plan your own getaway and gives tons of suggestions for where to go, where to stop on the way, what to do, where to stay, and everything in between! Couldn’t help but be inspired. Love the “Chick Wit” and other tips scattered throughout the book, they never fail to entertain me. Definitely a book you can read cover to cover or flip through by the pool and enjoy it either way. After picking this up for myself, I’m excited (and relieved!) to know that I have Mother’s Day, birthdays, and anything else that comes up covered. Definitely going to keep a few on hand for last-minute and unexpected gifting situations! (more)
